The ChatGPT app is under OpenAI review. You do not need to wait for that review to use the QuantLions remote MCP server in a compatible client.

01Add the serverCopy one secure remote address.
02Sign inApprove access in your browser.
03Start researchingVerify the tools with a read-only request.
01 · Prepare

Before you begin

  • Use a current MCP client that supports remote Streamable HTTP servers and browser-based OAuth.
  • Have your QuantLions account ready. Your browser will open so you can sign in securely.
  • Core strategy configuration, backtesting, analytics, and export tools work through MCP. Interactive visualization widgets depend on whether your client supports MCP Apps.
02 · Connect

QuantLions server address

Use this exact address whenever your client asks for a remote MCP server URL:

https://backtesting.quantlions.ai/mcp

Transport: Streamable HTTP · Authentication: OAuth in your browser · API key: not required

Setup steps

Codex

Add the server once, then complete the browser sign-in:

codex mcp add quantlions --url https://backtesting.quantlions.ai/mcp
codex mcp login quantlions
  1. Run both commands in your terminal.
  2. Approve the connection and finish signing in in the browser window.
  3. Run codex mcp list to confirm that quantlions is enabled.
  4. Start a new Codex conversation and use the read-only test below.
Setup steps

Claude Code

Add QuantLions as a user-level remote HTTP server:

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user quantlions https://backtesting.quantlions.ai/mcp
  1. Run the command in your terminal and start Claude Code.
  2. Enter /mcp, select QuantLions, and complete the browser sign-in.
  3. Confirm that the server reports a connected status.
  4. Open a new conversation and use the read-only test below.

Another MCP client

In your client's MCP or connector settings, add a remote HTTP server named QuantLions and paste the server address above. Complete the OAuth sign-in when the browser opens.

Client support varies. If a client cannot connect to a Streamable HTTP server with OAuth, or cannot complete dynamic client registration, it is not compatible with the customer endpoint yet. Do not work around this by pasting passwords or creating unofficial API keys.

03 · Verify

Verify the connection safely

Start with a read-only request so you can confirm tool discovery before spending any research credits:

Use QuantLions to show me which indicators are available for building a simple moving-average crossover strategy. Do not run a backtest yet.

A successful response should use QuantLions guidance or catalog tools and should not start a paid backtest. When you are ready to test a strategy, ask the agent to validate the configuration and show the execution cost before running it.

Troubleshooting

The browser did not open

Use your client's MCP connection screen to start authentication, or copy the sign-in URL it displays into your browser.

The server shows unauthorized

Clear the saved QuantLions authentication in your client, reconnect, and complete browser sign-in again.

No QuantLions tools appear

Update the client, confirm the exact server address, and verify that it supports remote Streamable HTTP MCP servers with OAuth.

No interactive widget appears

Your client may not render MCP Apps. You can still use the core research and analytics tools and their structured results.

Still stuck? Email [email protected] and include your client name, version, approximate time, and the visible error. Never email passwords, authentication codes, or private keys.
